Feeding Your Chihuahua

The Chihuahua is a very small dog breed so you don't want to go overboard on the feeding, this can cause dog obesity. They do eat small portions though so this means the food that they do intake really needs to offer all of the nutritional benefits possible.

Chihuahuas are prone to hypogylcemia so they shouldn't go too long with out a proper feeding. Free feeding should never be an option, some people are lazy about feeding their dogs so they just leave a heaping bowl of food out for them at all times. This could lead to so many health problems  that could even be fatal to your little pet. There are so many different kinds of dog foods out there, you just need to make sure to pick the right one. Many places even have breed specific foods that target your breed of dog. Learn how to read the labels and consult your vet if necessary. Your dogs nutrition is extremely important and you are the one responsible!

The Chihuahua Personality

Chihuahuas are very loyal and entertaining little animals. There is never really a dull moment if you have one at home. Not all Chihuahuas are the same, their personalities vary so if you are looking for an older Chihuahua you really have to feel out their personality. Their personality can depend on how their parents were as well.

You really need to know who you are getting your Chihuahua puppy from if you are going to a breeder since they can tell you about the line and where they came from. You definitley want to go for a line a Chihuahuas that have been well socialized. It is possible to end up with a Chihuahua that has bad socialization skills that are near impossible to break. This could be quite a challenge in the future. It could result in them not being good with children, dogs, cats or other people.

These dogs love to burrow and snuggle. You can count on them being under a blanket somewhere in the house or if sunny out, finding that spot of sun to lay out in. Do keep in mind that Chihuahuas are not easy to house train. This is something you must be prepared for and you have to be consistent in the training process. I didn't say it was impossible! The Chihuahua dog breed will make a great companion and if you get one from a reputable breeder you should be getting one with a good temperament. I still think you could get a very sweet loving Chihuahua from a shelter as well. One thing they all have in common is they need love, that could really turn one into a good little dog for your family.... it may just take some patience on your end.
